The Ultimate Drinking Post for Sheep and Goats

The Drinking Post is the most reliable automatic waterer for sheep and goats. It will eliminate all your watering chores – no more chopping ice, scrubbing algae, filling tanks, or dragging hoses! The bowl fills and drains with each use, which provides your animals with fresh, clean water every time they take a drink. It doesn’t require any electricity and it can stay frost-free in temps as low as -50 F/-45.5 C! It’s so sturdy and durable that we’ve backed every Ultimate Drinking Post with a 5 Year Warranty!

The Livestock Paddle Attachment: The Drinking Post for Sheep/Goats features a weighted riser block that attaches to the standard flat paddle. To activate the water, they will butt the riser block forward with their head. This “butting” motion is a natural action for sheep and goats, so it’s more comfortable to use and easier to learn! The Livestock Paddle Attachment will come included with your Drinking Post for Sheep/Goats.

We installed one last year (2018) and it worked beautifully through a very cold, windy Pennsylvania winter. I just purchased two more for other pastures and can’t wait till the ground thaws to get them installed!! They have stood up to our horses kicking at them, chewing on them and trying to bite the paddle! The post did not get brittle in the cold like PVC does. Great work saving product!! I have had this for 2 winters now- with temperatures in the single digits. Never a problem. Best investment I’ve made and very easy to install. At the time I installed I only had one horse. I’ve had my drinking post watered in Northern Illinois for 3+ years, two horses, and it’s been a champion! I often say it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. What’s not to love? Easy, safe, healthy for the horses, time and money savings. Had to do some minor maintenance on it this year, replaced the bowl since the holder for a screw did eventually wear down. We installed our drinking post this summer for our two warmbloods and 1 mule. I actually have looked forward to the electric bill each month to see the cost savings that the drinking post has given us. So far this winter our electric bill is averaging 300 kWh less then the same month last year when we were using a water tank heater. That is $30 of savings a month just from 1 tank heater! At this rate the drinking post will pay for itself in 2.5 winters. It has been worth every penny! We bought our drinking posts about 3 years ago. I have had zero issues with them. We are on a well so once every fall I do take them apart and fully clean them since I do get sediment from the well. However city water should have no issues. My cows have fresh water even on the coldest days and we had record negative temps last winter! The drinking posts did great. I will be ordering more as we add more pens around the barn area. These are a must have for anyone that deals with frozen hoses, tank heaters, evaporation, and algae build up in normal waterers. They are great for horses and cattle and pigs as well. A post for our pigs is in the list for next summer. - 11/16/2023

Drinking post is just as they claim. My horses have always used a trough. Anyone that has used or uses a trough knows that in the winter you always have to make sure the heater is working and in the summer always keeping it clean from insects. My horses learned quickly to use the post and seem to be drinking more often. I would recommend this to anyone that is just thinking about getting one and on the fence about it. It might be a little more work than a trough to get started but it is well worth the effort for you and your livestock. - 4/16/2021

We installed our first drinking post a few months ago in our Welsh pony's field. He figured out how to use it immediately and seems to enjoy playing with it too. My other horse has a traditional water trough with a float and in the summer weather it turns green and needs dumped and cleaned every few days. The drinking post on the other hand provides clean, cool water on demand and takes no work on my part. I really like it! I will eventually install one for my horse too. We have four systems. The oldest one was installed about four years ago, and we had our first problem when the bowl stopped draining. Customer service was amazing. Tracked the trouble down to the weight inside the valve. The Company sent us a replacement for free. Installed and fixed the problem. After years of having electric heaters run to our automatic waterers, these systems are a life saver. If I had a gripe, it would be they don’t do a great job on the website at explaining, in written directions, how these systems work and how to disassemble/reassemble them. We are in the sticks so the YouTube videos aren’t as helpful. See the photo of the weight. This came out of a 6’ waterer and obviously worked for a good while; however, when draining stopped, the hexagonal replacement the company sent took care of the issue immediately. - 10/13/2024

My Drinking Post waterer is one of the best purchases I've ever made for me and my horses. I was worried that my 38+ year old gelding would not be able to work it, but he figured it out in no time. We only had 1 issue with it freezing in over 5 years of New England winters and the customer service when we called about that was fabulous. I think it's been about 6 or 7 years with a DPW and going strong. Northern Illinois winter is no problem. Why anyone is still using heated waterers is a mystery to me. The DPW pays for itself in the savings compared to the energy use of a heated waterer, not to mention how little maintenance it needs. - 4/16/2022

I installed two last fall nieghbors were cautious about them and cold weather 2 weeks ago we had negative 20 temp with minus 34 wind chill and they worked as advertised while my other waters were a solid block of ice. This thing is amazing. This is the second winter with it. I am going to do the winterizing this year. It got a bit frozen at the top last year in a heavy deep freezing (-15)snow.
