The Ultimate Drinking Post for Sheep and Goats

The Drinking Post is the most reliable automatic waterer for sheep and goats. It will eliminate all your watering chores – no more chopping ice, scrubbing algae, filling tanks, or dragging hoses! The bowl fills and drains with each use, which provides your animals with fresh, clean water every time they take a drink. It doesn’t require any electricity and it can stay frost-free in temps as low as -50 F/-45.5 C! It’s so sturdy and durable that we’ve backed every Ultimate Drinking Post with a 5 Year Warranty!

The Livestock Paddle Attachment: The Drinking Post for Sheep/Goats features a weighted riser block that attaches to the standard flat paddle. To activate the water, they will butt the riser block forward with their head. This “butting” motion is a natural action for sheep and goats, so it’s more comfortable to use and easier to learn! The Livestock Paddle Attachment will come included with your Drinking Post for Sheep/Goats.

We installed our drinking post this summer for our two warmbloods and 1 mule. I actually have looked forward to the electric bill each month to see the cost savings that the drinking post has given us. So far this winter our electric bill is averaging 300 kWh less then the same month last year when we were using a water tank heater. That is $30 of savings a month just from 1 tank heater! At this rate the drinking post will pay for itself in 2.5 winters. It has been worth every penny! I’ve had my drinking post watered in Northern Illinois for 3+ years, two horses, and it’s been a champion! I often say it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. What’s not to love? Easy, safe, healthy for the horses, time and money savings. Had to do some minor maintenance on it this year, replaced the bowl since the holder for a screw did eventually wear down. I live in Montana, this thing is incredible. I wish I could sell them because they would be the easiest sell ever. Even with weeks of -20 degree nights and highs of maybe 5 degrees, the horses have water. I have never had to clean it and never had an issue. 3 years, 3 horses, it is fantastic. I have to say I had my doubts when looking for a waterer that would not freeze but needed no electricity. After purchasing ours and having it a little over a year now, I would never use anything else. Highly recommend drinking post waterers! I think it's been about 6 or 7 years with a DPW and going strong. Northern Illinois winter is no problem. Why anyone is still using heated waterers is a mystery to me. We installed two Drinking Posts in the Fall of 2023. Winter was one of those "every 8 years it gets this cold" ones with below freezing temps. We currently have 8 drinking post automatic waterers for our horses. We have one in each of 3 paddocks and 1 in each of our 5 stalls. Installing the drinking post automatic waterers was the best decision we made when building our barn and paddocks 4 years ago. A special shout out to Brad at drinking post who's customer service is above 5 stars - he is always there to help with any questions and goes above and beyond the call of duty to help with questions, etc. I highly recommend drinking post waterers to everyone I know. We installed the drinking posts two years ago. This last weekend was beyond cold in Ontario Canada. (-41 Celsius) unfortunately the anchor for the paddle broke right off the bottom of the bowl. HOWEVER, System Fencing, (Dealer) had the bowl in stock and less than 24 hrs later we were up and running again. So easy to fix and replace even in this temperature. Thank you for an exceptional product! (And calling me back even though I didn’t need your help after all in finding my closest dealer). - 1/22/2019

I love it!!!! no more checking the trough, no more cleaning the trough, I did take the advice of another review and built a cage out of 1x1x1/4 angle iron I had around the farm, same length as the post and buried with the post. Glad I did, the first day 10 cows figured it out, they were pretty rough around the post. Haven't had this during the winter yet, but I'm not expecting to have any problems since I went an extra foot deeper than recommended depth with good gravel ground and excellent drainage. Really glad I bought two, both pastures have clean fresh water all the time. Highly recommend, no wires, breakers, and if my power goes out, which happens more than I like, I'm able to run my water pump with a back up generator and not worry about the extra draw to run a heater also! - 4/16/2022

The drinking post has made our life so much easier!!! No more carrying buckets or wrestling hoses ! We highly recommend buying this product. We trained our horses in 2 days exactly like the video says . It works!!!! It did take a few weeks to train the donkeys, but donkeys are stubborn that’s not a secret lol they love the waterer and actually use it for entertainment. Also customer service is amazing . We've had 3 drinking posts installed at our Colorado ranch since 2017 and love the way they operate! No heaters, no electricity required and the water comes out clean and cool throughout the year, summer and winter. We have small ponies to large drafts and all have typically learned how to use it within a day or two. Recently in one pasture, one horse got a little "mouthy" with the paddle and eventually ripped it out of the bowl (original design). The owner personally delivered a newly designed bowl and paddle configuration which is much more robust (see comparison on their website) and we've been trouble-free now for several months. These are life changing! Say goodbye to scrubbing algae, filling troughs, frozen hoses, breaking ice, and worrying that your horse isn't drinking enough because the water got hot in the sun. We own a small farm/boarding facility and had 16 of these waterers installed and I couldn't be happier. They're practically maintenance-free and always work - even in the dead of winter. Not only do our horses love them (all but one learned how to use them in under 3 days…the dum-dum took a full 7 days), but they are also great for the goats. We're even contemplating modifying one so it sits just a few inches off the ground so the pigs can use them too!
