Watering Livestock Is Our Number One Job

Since we at Drinking Post consider watering livestock to be our number one job, we thought you’d like to learn some interesting facts about water. Water is the most common substance found on earth and many would argue that it is the most important resource in the world.  Did you know that 97% of the water on our planet is ocean water and remains un-drinkable to humans. Only 3 percent of the world’s water is fresh water and out of that small percentage, amazingly, 90% of the world’s fresh water supply is located in Antarctica!

Called  “the universal solvent”, water actively dissolves more substances than any other liquid, including sulphuric acid! Water is is portable and travels around the globe pretty easily! Over a 100-year period, a typical water molecule will spend 98 years in the ocean, 20 months as ice, about 2 weeks in lakes and rivers and less than a week in the atmosphere.  Yes –  there is water in the atmosphere! Imagine this:  there is more fresh water carried in the atmosphere than in all the rivers on the planet combined!

Getting thirsty yet? Drink up! Don’t be shy. A person can live up to a month without food, but only one week without water. We truly need water to survive.  We rely on water constantly for personal use, for manufacturing  and for growing food and watering livestock. Where would we be without fresh water?

The amount of water we use can be staggering. It is estimated that over 42,000 gallons of water are needed to grow and prepare food for a typical Thanksgiving dinner.  The average person in the US uses about 50 gallons of water a day.  Even so – it would take the average American home 7 and ½ years to use the same amount of water that flows over Niagara Falls each second.  And, before you complain about your water bills, the urban poor in Nairobi pay ten times as much for water as someone would pay in New York City.Horses at Automatic Waterer

Access to clean fresh water is not just necessary for survival, but very desirable for overall health as well. In developing countries, 80% off all illnesses are water related! Unsafe water kills 200 children worldwide, every hour! Just like people, your animals need a constant supply of fresh clean water.  It’s one of the best ways to avoid disease, aid in weight gain and of course keep them alive! That’s why we make watering your livestock our number one job!
